I have always been a privileged person. I have everything I need, want, and more. For my entire life, I’ve lived in a shell, leaving me oblivious to witness every person in the world that is struggling to merely survive. Never did I know the real meaning of the words hunger, thirst, or poverty. It was not just me who didn’t know, it was and is the majority of a generation. A good portion of them had been brought up in an ecosystem where wants are necessities. Where dreams and success aren’t valued. However, in the same generation, the smaller percentage values everything beyond anything you could imagine. It bewilders me when I say that those people are the ones that struggle to survive.
Nizharkudai Foundation is a not-for-profit development organization striving for bringing sustainable development in the lives of marginalized communities. It works with Adivasi, Dalit and marginal farming communities in Theni District, Tamil Nadu, India. Nizharkudai, in partnership with ARUDECS, is working to ensure that all citizens can access rights, justice, knowledge and resources. It supports disadvantaged and marginalized communities to build their capacities, access benefits from mainstream institutions and promote sustainable development. In May 2022, Nizharkudai launched “Vaanga Padikalaam” – a tribal education project with an objective to ensure 100 percent enrollment and quality of education for the tribal children.
It is extremely important that promoting child rights is the major objective of our organization in which children can freely develop their capabilities to the fullest extent possible and imbibe sound values and respect. So, it is essential that all children must be assured of their rights to survival, protection, development and participation in all the events both in the families and in society. Considering all these facts, we concluded that all children must get the best possible start in life and have access to quality education and all children must have ample opportunity to develop their individual capabilities in a safe and supportive environment.
