Tribal Village Learning Centers (TVLCs)
To ensure continuous coaching and support outside of school, we established Village Learning Centers (Evening Tuition Centers) at 5 tribal villages, namely Munthal, Siraikadu, Chellong Colony, Nehru Nagar and Rasimalai Colony. With the appointed tutors, these evening tuition centers run between 5.00 PM to 6.30 PM every day. In addition to helping the kids with their homework and test preparation, the tutors also took care of other activities, like cultural reinforcement, conducting games, skill development, exposing their talent and etc. Village volunteers used to monitor the activities and do the needed support to strengthen the tribal village learning centers.
Key Points
- Identified and appointed tutors from the same village for four of the five villages. For Siraikadu alone, due to lack of availability of skilled tutors locally, a tutor from a nearby village was appointed and she travels 8 KM every day to teach the children.
- Reading and writing status of the children increased.
- Children were able to concentrate more on their studies and achieved good academic growth.
- Children dropout rate reduced significantly, and they were regular to school.
- Confidence level of children and parents increased.
- Children enjoyed learning and their core values became stronger.
